Florida cops investigate Facebook photo of dog with muzzle taped shut

SOUTH DAYTONA, Fla. – Police are investigating a Facebook photo showing a dog with its muzzle taped shut after a high-volume of calls were received.

Katie Brown of South Daytona uploaded a picture of her dog's mouth wrapped in gray tape on Facebook Friday morning, prompting more than 140,000 shares and calls to action from the local police department.

In her post, bothered by dog's barking, she said: "This is what happens when you don't shut up!"

She followed up that post with another a minute later.

Dont panic everyone it was only for a minute but hasnt barked since... POINT MADE!!!

Brown is now being investigated for animal cruelty.

South Daytona Police Department notified social media users on the City's Facebook page following "a lot of calls" from concerned individuals.

The large amount of phone calls caused the emergency dispatch service to be tied up.

Please everyone understand that this is being handled. Your concern is welcome, but we do not want to tie up our emergency dispatch services.

Commenters were relieved police got involved with the case.

"Thank you for all your hard work!!" Theresa DiPirro said. " Facebook makes it possible to get crimes like this taken care of!"

"Hope this dog and any other animals are taken from her!" Scott Marino said. "To many get away with this, she should not!
