Port Authority Bus Terminal reopened after suspicious package prompts evacuation

MIDTOWN, Manhattan — Port Authority has reopened after a suspicious package prompted a partial evacuation Wednesday evening.

The evacuation happened around 5:30 p.m., on the busiest travel day of the year.

The North Wing of the terminal was evacuated after reports of a suspicious package. Officials say the item is on or near a light pole near the Microsoft Store.

Police closed Eighth Avenue between 41st and 42nd Streets.

A bomb squad conducted a sweep the area and did not find any explosives.

The terminal and surrounding streets reopened around 7:15 p.m.
