Driver arrested after slamming into, killing 61-year-old man in Brooklyn: cops

BROOKLYN – Police arrested a driver who struck and killed a 61-year-old man that was crossing the street late Wednesday. This incident marks the second vehicular-related death in Brooklyn last night.

The collision happened at 8655 Bay Parkway before 10 p.m., police said.

Cops found the victim, now identified as John Saldiran, lying on the pavement with body injuries. He was taken to Coney Island Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Upon further investigation, cops found that Saldiran was attempting to cross Cross Bay Parkway from easy to west, mid-block, when he was struck by a Lincoln MKT suburban traveling northbound on Bay Parkway.

The driver, 22-year-old Naghman Mehdi, remained on the scene and was taken into custody.

Mehdi faces an aggravated unlicensed operator charge, police said.

The investigation is ongoing.
