NEWARK, N.J. — Authorities say a traveler tried to hide a knife in his underwear as he went through security at Newark Liberty International Airport.

Port Authority police say Sean Curry, 29, of Maumelle, Arkansas, was told Monday he could not clear a checkpoint with a small folding knife in his carry-on bag. They say Curry told them he would place it in his checked luggage instead.

Police said Curry returned to the checkpoint, triggering a body scanner alarm. A Transportation Security Administration officer found the two-bladed knife hidden in Curry’s underwear.

Curry is charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, according to the TSA.

It’s not known if he has a lawyer who can discuss the charges.
