NEWARK, N.J. — Police have recovered the headless body of a missing Newark woman Monday evening.

Police were called to the scene for a foul odor coming from the garage located at 803 S. 11th St. They discovered a decomposing body wrapped in the blanket.

The body discovered was mutilated and without a head.

There was an unconfirmed report that the head was later found in the upstairs attic bedroom, but officials would not comment.

Newark officials announced Tuesday that the victim had been identified as Pamela Davis, 50, of Newark. Davis was reported missing Oct. 30 by her family. They called police Tuesday when they showed up at the house looking for her -- and discovered the smell.

Neighbors said they had seen her previously at the South 11th Street address. The unidentified man being questioned is a tenant in an attic bedroom.

Police are probing whether drugs played a role in the woman's murder.

The investigation is active and ongoing.
