Here’s where to find Veterans Day deals

NEW YORK — Veterans Day is Wednesday, Nov. 11 — a time to honor those who served in the U.S. Armed Forces.

Many businesses take the opportunity to show their appreciation by offering veterans free and discounted meals, goods and services on Veterans Day.

Here’s a list of businesses with special offers on Wednesday. Most offers require a valid military ID or proof of service.

Note: Many offerings are at participating locations only. It’s suggested that you call ahead to make sure the deal is available at the location nearest to you.

Free food/meals
Applebee’s — is offering a free entree to veterans. Vets can choose from one of seven free entrees. Beverages and gratuity not included. More info.

Bonefish Grill — is offering a complimentary Bang Bang Shrimp coupon to all vets and active servicemembers with purchase of an entree.

California Pizza Kitchen – Veterans and active military personnel can choose a free entrée from a list of pizzas, salads and pastas. Find more information here

Carraba’s Italian Grill — is offering a free appetizer of choice to all veterans and active servicemembers from November 9 to 15.

Chili’s — is offering vets and active servicemembers any lunch combo or dinner meal from a select menu for free. Dine-in only, beverages and gratuity not included.

Denny’s — invites all vets to build their own Grand Slam breakfast from 5 a.m. to noon. More info.

Friendly’s — is offering free breakfast, lunch and dinner for all vets. Dine-in only.

Golden Corral — Military Appreciation Dinner is available for any veteran from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. More info.

Hooters — is offering free meals to veterans from a select menu all day with a drink purchase only. More info.

IHOP — is offering free red, white and blue pancakes and combo plates to all vets from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. More info.

Little Caesars — is offering free pizza or $5 HOT-N-READY Lunch Combo to all vets and active servicemembers from 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.

LongHorn Steakhouse — is offering a complimentary Texas Tonion and non-alcoholic beverage to all vets and active military servicemembers.

Olive Garden — is giving all veterans a free entree, and offering all guests that dine with veterans 10 percent off their bill.

Orange Leaf — is offering free frozen yogurt up to 11 oz.

Outback Steakhouse — is offering a free Bloomin’ Onion and a non-alcoholic beverage to all veterans, plus 15 percent off your full purchase from Nov. 12-Dec 31, 2015.

Red Lobster — is giving vets a free appetizer or dessert from a select menu from November 9 to 12.

Red Robin — locations nationwide are inviting all veterans enjoy a free Tavern Double Burger with Bottomless Steak Fries on November 11. The chain is also rewarding military Red Robin Royalty members with a 20 percent discount at participating restaurants from Nov. 12-Dec. 31. More info

Starbucks — is offering a free tall coffee for veterans, active servicemembers and their spouses at participating locations.

Texas Roadhouse — is offering free lunch plus sides and a drink from a select menu to all vets and active servicemembers. Dine-in only, call ahead to check times.

T.G.I. Friday’s — is offering free lunch from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at participating locations. Dine-in only.

UNO Chicago Grill — is offering a free individual pizza or entree with the purchase of an entree of equal or greater value to all veterans and active servicemembers. Tell your server you are there that day to support Wounded Warrior Project, and a portion of your party’s check will go to benefit the charity.

Other freebies
Army Corp of Engineers Recreation Areas is waiving day use fees at more than 2,400 areas nationwide for all veterans, active and reserve component service members, and their families. Map of NY locations.

B&B for Veterans is a program that coordinates with bed and breakfasts and inns around the country to offer free stays for vets around Veterans Day. The rooms fill up quick, but there may still be some available. Check the list on bandbsforvets.org. More on Facebook.

Car wash operators across the country are offering a free car wash to veterans. Check participating locations.

Meineke is offering all vets a free basic oil change at participating locations. Walk-ins welcome. More info.

Discounts & Sales
Bed Bath & Beyond is offering 20 percent off an entire purchase for vets, active military, DOD, reserves, guard, retirees, and military spouses in stores only. More info.

Dollar General — is offering 11 percent off in stores and online to veterans, active duty servicemembers and their families. More info.

Home Depot –offers military veterans a 10 percent discount during Memorial Day, Veterans Day and Independence Day.

JCPenney — is having a Veterans Day Sale with several coupons to get $10 off plus an extra 15-20 percent off with coupon.

Jo-Ann Fabrics — -is having a 20 percent off in store and online with coupon code VETSDAY315 on top of their regular 10 percent off military discount. More info.

Lowes — honors all veterans on Memorial Day, 4th of July and Veterans Day with a 10 percent discount. More information here.

Red Roof Inns — are offering 15 percent off room rates from November 1-30. Visit redroof.com and use the VP+ number 618669. Make sure you have your military ID at check-in.

Sam’s Club — offers membership discounts to military members every day.

Sleep Number — stores and Sleepnumber.com are offering active military personnel and veterans various discounts through Nov. 15. Discounts range from 20-30 percent or $500 – $700, depending on purchase.

Uber – Veterans will be able to use the service for free transportation to jobs, interviews and other employment events. Find more information here.
