PLAINFIELD, N.J. — Police have identified the Plainfield man who was killed in a drive-by shooting on Friday afternoon.
Anthony Bowles, 24, was walking on Evona Avenue near Third Street at around 2 p.m. when at least one gunman began spraying the area.
Witnesses said Bowles tried to escape the gunfire by running behind a home, where 6-year-old Ashley Sauzedo and her aunt, Elaina Zacarias, 33, were on the front porch. Both were shot in the legs and are expected to recover.
Zacarias is a mother to five children. Sauzedo was hit by two bullets and will remain hospitalized for a few more days.
Edgar Zacarias, the little girl’s uncle, said the violence has forced him and his family to consider moving.
“Yeah, sure. Because for my kids, not good,” Zacarias said.
Neighbors are overwhelmed by the recent climb in violent crime.
“From the summer to now, this is what, number four I think. Number four,” said Rosey Townsend, who lives across the street. "They just ran over somebody like a month ago, attacked him with a car."
Posters offering a $10,000 reward for information about an Aug. 30th shooting still hang in the neighborhood. 17-year-old Kyle Winkey of Piscataway, N.J. was killed by the gunfire.
Union County Crime Stoppers are offering another $10,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest in this latest case.
“A 6-year-old, so unfortunate,” a passing resident commented. “But I thank God that he spared her life. And it’s so unfortunate that someone else lost theres.”
