Man, 72, killed by SUV while crossing street in Brooklyn: NYPD

EAST FLATBUSH, Brooklyn– A 72-year-old man was struck and killed by a SUV while crossing the street in Brooklyn late Sunday night, police said.

The New York Police Department said officers responded to a report of a pedestrian hit at 2909 Avenue D just before 11 p.m.

Upon arrival, they discovered Mitchel Darroux of Brooklyn unconscious and unresponsive with injuries to the body laying on the pavement.

EMS responded and transported the man to Kings County Hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

An initial investigation by police found that a 63-year-old woman, driving a 2002 gray Ford Explorer, was traveling westbound on Avenue D when she slammed into him as he tried to cross Avenue D midblock outside of the marked crosswalk north to south.

The driver remained at the scene.

There are no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.
