NEW YORK – The Mets are looking to quickly erase memories of their painful, late-inning loss Tuesday with a Game 2 win in Kansas City Wednesday night.
The Mets will send ace Jacob deGrom to the mound against Johnny Cueto, who the Royals signed in late July.
DeGrom has been rock-solid throughout the playoffs, but Cueto has raised questions for fans in Kansas City. He completely dominated the offensively-potent Astros in the final game of the ALDS, setting down the last 19 batters he faced. In the next series he was a totally different pitcher – Cueto allowed eight runs in two innings as the Royals lost 11-8 to Toronto.
In Game 1, the Mets suffered a crushing loss in the 14th inning after closer Jeurys Familia gave up a game-tying home run to Alex Gordon in the 9th inning.
If the Amazins can pull off a victory Wednesday, they'll have three straight games at Citi Field and a chance to win the World Series before the home crowd.
