GROTON, Conn. — National Guard Staff Sergeant Brian McGugan took a walk down memory lane at the Fitch High School baseball field.

The same field he caught for Mets ace Matt Harvey, in his freshman and sophomore years. The 2005 season was the most memorable because it was the year Harvey helped lead the Falcons to a state championship.

McGugan grew up just blocks away from Harvey, and remembers a tall lanky kid who only had two pitches in his repertoire.  A far cry from the 6-foot-4, 217 pound power pitcher who is one of the best in the game today.

Brian will watch Game 1 at home with his 11-year-old son before being shipped off to Kuwait this Sunday on a 9-month tour.
