NEW YORK -- Police are looking for three men wanted for questioning in regards to a shootout prior to NYPD Officer Randolph Holder's death.

A shootout happened Tuesday on the grounds of the East River Housing Development about a half an hour before the officer was shot.

Two housing police officers were on a roof in the vicinity of 455 E. 102 St. Tuesday around 8:30 p.m. when they heard, and saw, people firing weapons at each other.

The suspects then fled the area.

Holder, 33, was in the area near FDR Drive when he was fatally shot allegedly by Tyrone Howard who has been charged with murder in his death.

Police are investigating whether the men were involved in a gun battle with Howard.

Many are frustrated that Howard was even on the streets in the first place after his history of prior arrests.

“This week we learned the true cost in our bail system. No more New Yorker needs to pay the ultimate price. Our laws need to be fixed and fixed soon,” Mayor Bill de Blasio said.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.
