"Here at Birdland it's like my home," Jane Monheit smiled. "I can practically move in!"

A jazz lover's paradise, singer Jane Monheit has found her perfect home at the iconic Birdland Jazz Club. And she's ready to take on the greats who stood there before her.

Monheit, who has nine studio albums, has put together the show "Jane Monheit Sings Ella Fitzgerald- The Songbook Sessions."

"Why Ella this time around?" I asked. "I mean Ella Fitzgerald is my hero, her albums were like biblical to me as a kid, I learned so much from them," she gushed. "15 years I'e been traveling doing albums and finally I said what am I doing, its time."

In addition to her own recordings, Monheit has worked alongside many illustrious artists who have recognized her talent and commitment to hard work.
Music has always been with the native Long Islander.

"I went to Connetquot Central School District and we had a ton of Jazz, we had a Jazz band in elementary school," she remembered. "So it was always just right there for me, a huge part of my life and I think I discovered early on I was decent at it and I just always stuck with it forever."

Jane Monheit is playing at Birdland through Saturday, October 16th.
