Pilot program would pull the plug on NYC Taxi Television

One of the first things most taxi riders do when they enter the yellow cab is reach for the mute button.

Since 2008, televisions have been used to help process payments and provide information and entertainment.

But they also generated many complaints.

The NYC Taxi and Limousine Commission unanimously voted to approve a pilot program. Hundreds of televisions will be removed and the city will test out GPD based handsets and tablets.

Drivers and riders are seeking more information about the possible systems.
