GASTONIA, N.C. — Adrian Franklin first walked down the aisle as a ring bearer with flower girl Brooke at his side.

He was not happy.

Seventeen years later, they were married.

Franklin told WBTV that he remembers when he was told he had to be in a wedding with Brooke when he was just five years old.

“I was devastated. I was like ‘tell me I don’t have to walk down the aisle with her!”

Franklin was was the ring bearer and 5-year-old Brooke was the flower girl in a family friend’s wedding. Brooke claims she had a crush on the boy all those years ago.

She says she tried to play with him on the playground at school, but he would always run and hide from her.

Franklin had a change of heart as he got older and the two dated in their early teens after Franklin wrote the message with his finger on her back. She says he didn’t answer right away because he forgot to include a question mark.

Years later, when he asked Brooke to marry him, he made a sign that read ‘Will you marry me Brooke.” He then got down on one knee and handed Brooke — a question mark.

She said yes.

On Sept. 19, the two were married in the same church they appeared in as ring bearer and flower girl 17 years ago.

But it was different this time — Franklin wasn’t hiding, he was smiling.
