NEW YORK — In a historic speech at the United Nations before the largest ever gathering of world leaders, Pope Francis on Friday championed protecting the environment from abuse and war, derided powerful countries for a “selfish and boundless thirst” for money, and condemned human trafficking and the drug trade.
