LOCKPORT, N.Y. — A 20-year-old man has been charged with assault after stabbing a teenage girl, WIVB reports.

At 2:40 a.m on Friday police responded to Grossi Park and found a 13-year-old girl who had a stab wound in her back.

According to WIVB, the victim described the suspect to police, who then began to search for the attacker.

The girl was rushed to Eastern Niagara Hospital for treatment.

Officers tracked down the attacker, not far from the crime scene, and identified him as Derrick T. Washburn, WIVB said.

The arrested him on charges of first degree attempted assault, third degree criminal possession of a weapon, first degree reckless endangerment, tampering with physical evidence and endangering the welfare of a child.

Police say Washburn is in jail pending a $10,000 bail.
