LENOX HILL, Manhattan – As people grabbed a quick coffee or egg sandwich before work, a man burst through the doors of a Lenox Hill bodega with a shotgun early Tuesday.

Around 8 a.m. the gunman entered Elim Deli Cafe at 851 Lexington Avenue dressed in a sleeveless white shirt and blue pants.  He pointed the shotgun at a clerk and demanded money, according to police.  To drive his point home, he began racking the gun -- but that caused it to jammed.

The stickup artist abandoned the alleged heist, turned around and ran out of the store with no money, heading northbound along Lexington Avenue.

Police say he is 6 feet tall and 165 pounds.

Anyone who has seen him is asked to call the anonymous tip line Crime Stoppers at 800-577-TIPS.
