City teacher arrested for crashing drone into Louis Armstrong Stadium during U.S. Open match

CORONA, Queens -- The NYPD have arrested a 26-year-old teacher for crashing a drone into Louis Armstrong Stadium during a U.S. Open match Thursday evening.

According to a USTA press release, the drone flying from the east crashed into the southwest corner of the stadium during the Flavia Pennetta vs. Monica Niculescu match around 8:27 p.m. Thursday.

There were no spectators in the area and no injuries were reported.

Daniel Verley, who works for the Department of Education, was charged with reckless endangerment, reckless operation of a drone and operating a drone in a NYC public park outside of prescribed area for doing so.

The NYPD is investigating.
