New bedtime book guarantees to put your kids to bed

NEW YORK — Its that magical part of the day when parents find a good book, cuddle up to the youngin’s and read ‘em a good ol’ bedtime story.

After a few lines, the kids start to nod off and then Mr. Sandman takes over.

Sound too good to be true, right? Well, that’s why it is.

But now a new book is promising to get your children to sleep in a jiffy.

Called “The Rabbit Who Wants To Fall Asleep” by a Swedish psychologist, the 26-page story uses a perfect combination of sentence structure and hypnotic words.

It cues the reader to stress words in bold, slow down on words in italics and act out the suggested physical actions.

Despite all the praise for the book, child therapists like Darby Fox says it’s sheer marketing that’s propelling the bedtime story and parents should never manipulate their child’s sleep cycle.

“We want them to learn to regulate themselves and be able to put themselves to sleep,” she told PIX11 News. “Its very dangerous if we try to manipulate it with something like this.”

It’s not stopping parents from finding success with the book, raving all about it online and sending it to the top of Amazon’s best-sellers list.

“Reading a book at bedtime and having a routine can solve problems and sort of set the children up for relaxing and going to sleep,” explained Fox. “But it by no means addresses a problem child or a problem behavior around bedtime.“
