NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. — Two children were seriously injured when a mother backed into them Monday afternoon in New Rochelle.

Police responded to the scene around 4:30 p.m. at 230 Drake Ave. Police say the car was backing up into a driveway between two buildings when the kids, a 12-year-old and a 10-year-old, were struck.

One was her own child. The impact on the rear passenger side door  was so severe, it was held together by crime scene tape.

The kids were rushed to a nearby hospital where they are reportedly in serious condition.

The investigation is ongoing at this time.
