Man caught on surveillance video in violent Upper West Side robbery

UPPER WEST SIDE, Manhattan — Police are searching for a suspect in violent robbery on the Upper West Side.

According to police, the suspect followed the woman, 24, home July 26, around 3 a.m., in the vicinity of the Upper West Side.

Surveillance video shows the two wrestle to the ground in the vestibule of the victim's apartment as the suspect rips her purse away. He then flees the scene with the purse.

Police say the bag was later found with all of the contents intact.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call the NYPD Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS. People can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers website or sending a text message to CRIMES (274637) and then enter TIP577.
