Manhole fire causes street closures in midtown

MANHATTAN— After an explosion underground sent a manhole cover flying 15 feet in the air, streets are closed in midtown.

On ninth Avenue and 45 Street a manhole exploded, launching it into the air and landing on a fire hydrant.

Witnesses told PIX11 news that it was loud and that smoke could be seen down the block.

No injuries have been reported.
