4-year-old boy drowns in backyard pool in Bay Shore

BAY SHORE, N.Y. — Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the drowning death of a 4-year-old boy on Long Island.

According to Suffolk County police, Adrian Schrone, 4, was found unresponsive in a semi-in ground pool in the backyard of his home in Bay Shore Monday afternoon.

The adults in the home attempted CPR on Schrone but were unsuccessful. He was taken to Southside Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

An investigation is ongoing.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 10 people die every day from unintentional drowning.  One in five people who die from drowning are children under 14.
