Coast Guard rescues 2 from burning sailboat off Ocean City, N.J.

OCEAN CITY, N.J — The U.S. Coast Guard rescued two people from a burning sailboat three miles east of Ocean City after receiving a mayday call just before 11 a.m. Sunday.

A man, woman and their dog were were able to safely evacuate the boat after the fire started. They were in a dinghy when the Coast Guard rescue crews arrived about 10 minutes later, officials said.

The 46-foot sailboat later sunk. It is not clear what caused the fire.

No injuries were reported.
