JERSEY CITY, N.J. — Authorities say a police officer is among a group of people who’ve been struck and injured by a speeding vehicle in Jersey City.

The incident happened shortly after 8 p.m. Sunday when the vehicle hit a second car, sending it up onto the sidewalk. The injured people were taken to local hospitals for evaluation and treatment.

The Jersey Journal reports that a spokesman for Jersey City Medical Center says 12 people are in stable condition there. A city spokeswoman says the officer is at that hospital.

A spokesman for Christ Hospital says one victim is in stable condition there and two others declined treatment.

Police are investigating and have detained the driver of the first vehicle.
