EAST NEWARK, N.J. --Firefighters saved a family dog after it was trapped inside a burning East Newark fire Tuesday night.

The blaze broke out around 11 p.m. Tuesday on 200 Grant Ave.

The flames engulfed a duplex, which eventually caused the roof to collapse.

It also spread to a municipal garage – which is a total loss.

Emergency crews say everyone inside was able to make it out safely. The dog was also rescued but needed oxygen.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
