WESTBURY, New York - Let the buyer beware, goes the time-honored saying.

Police are looking for a couple of Craigslist car scammers after a 33-year-old victim lost thousands.

The 33-year-old prospective buyer thought he found the perfect vehicle when he spotted a 2012 Honda Civic on Craigslist.  He contacted the sellers, who brought the car over to his Westbury home.

They told him they were the owners and the victim gave them $8,000 for the car.  When he tried to register the Honda at the Department of Motor Vehicles, however, he found out that it was stolen.

The unidentified victim called police and showed them cell phone video that he shot during the transaction.

Detectives are now hoping someone will recognize the two men and call Crime Stoppers at (800) 244-TIPS.

All calls are anonymous.
