HARLEM, Manhattan — A young woman who had been shot twice in the face was found dead in a Manhattan apartment building Friday, authorities said.

Officers responded about 9:10 a.m. to 15 West 139th St., NYPD said. When they arrived, they found a woman in her 20s laying in the 10th floor hallway with gunshot wounds to her face, police said.

A police source told PIX11 News the victim had been shot twice. EMS arrived and pronounced woman dead at the scene, police said.

Ardella Harris has lived in that building -- Savoy Park -- for nearly 47 years. She said it was business as usual Friday morning when she left for work, but rushed home after hearing there had been a shooting on her floor.

"I ran when they called me and told me something had happened on my floor, because my niece is in the house," Harris told PIX11 News.

Harris' family is safe but she could not enter her apartment for hours as police investigated the shooting.

Neighbors were clearly shaken and disturbed by the slaying, right outside their front doors.

The victim has not been identified pending family notification, police said. No arrests have been made an investigation is ongoing.
