Two sharks sighted on Long Island beach, beachgoers evacuated

MASSAPEQUA, Long Island— Beachgoers have been given the all-clear after two sharks were sighted on a Long Island beach, Nassau County police said.

Lifeguards on Tobay Beach blew their whistles at around noon on Thursday, after getting word of a shark sighting, and evacuated everyone out of the water.

According to police, the sharks were headed eastbound towards Gilgo Beach and were spotted by the Nassau Aviation team, who reported they were about 15 feet off shore and were measured at around 6-feet-long each.

No injuries were reported as a result of this sighting.
