MANHATTAN— A 32-year-old man who sexually abused a helpless 2-year-old at a park in Manhattan plead guilty in court Thursday, according to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.
District Attorney Cyrus Vance said Jason Carroll took the 2-year-old victim, who was left in his care, into a bathroom in Riverside Park and while inside a stall, sexually assaulted her on September 2013. Two witnesses saw Carroll acting strangely in the bathroom area and called 911, according to Vance.
Police responded to the scene and immediately arrested Carroll. He was also in possession of a cell phone containing sexually explicit photos of children, Vance said.
“An act of violence against a child is the worst imaginable crime,” District Attorney Vance said.
Carroll plead guilty to a first degree criminal sexual act and possession of a sexual performance by a child, and is expected to be sentenced on August 6.
