Con Edison works to restore power on Staten Island after major outage

STATEN ISLAND — Con Ed generators are working around the clock on Staten Island after thousands of customers were without power on Monday.

By Tuesday, afternoon 19,000 customers were back on only 50 households were still down.

"Right now everything is getting back on line, the outages are sporadic," said Director of Operations for the city's Office of Emergency Management John Grimm.

Grimm tells PIX11 the Con Ed .feeder systems were overloaded when customers push the power to the limit on one of the hottest days of the summer so far.

All customers are expected to have power restored by Tuesday night.
