WILLIAMSBRIDGE, The Bronx — An off-duty police officer was walking to work Wednesday morning when she was attacked by a man who made off with her gun, police said.

The culprit -- described only as a black male -- approached the officer near East 226 Street and Bronx Boulevard, police said. First, he tried to steal her bag but the officer fought back. That’s when the attacker punched her in the face and snatched her bag containing her off-duty weapon, police said.

No arrests have been made in the case. A large-scale search is underway in the area, including the Bronx River Parkway.

Initially, police said the officer won’t be going to the hospital.

Anyone with information in the case is urged to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477).
