CONEY ISLAND, Brooklyn — The search is on Tuesday for a man who allegedly snuck into an 82-year-old woman's Brooklyn home, hid in her bedroom then raped her, police said.

It all started about 1:40 a.m. Monday when the attacker crept into the victim's home while she was outside sweeping the sidewalk and hid in her bedroom, police said. When the woman went to her room, the man attacked her.

First, he pulled out a knife and demanded money, but the woman said she did not have any cash to give him, police said.

After that, the culprit stayed in the home for nearly three hours and at about 4 a.m. he raped the woman, police said.

He ran from the home on foot, stealing an umbrella and a bag of clothes on his way out, police said.

The 82-year-old was taken to a hospital for evaluation, police said. Her condition was not released.

Police sent out a video of the attacker Tuesday asking for the public's help to identify him. He's described as a black male, between 20 and 30 years old, about 5 feet 8 inches tall and 160 pounds with an Afro and a light beard.

He was last seen wearing a white t-shirt with unknown writing on the front, grey sweatpants and Converse sneakers with white laces.

Anyone with information in the case is urged to call NYPD's anonymous Crime Stoppers hotline at 800-577-TIPS (8477).
