NEW YORK — A cycling cellphone thief was caught in the act by a dashboard camera on Wednesday.

A 29-year-old woman was walking along East Seventh Avenue about 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, and, when she crossed the intersection with Avenue A, an unidentified man on a bike grabbed her Galaxy S4 right out of her hands and sped away, police said.

The victim attempted to chase after the man but was unable to catch up to him.

A Citi Bike rider who peddled by moments after the burglary attempted to pursue the perpetrator, Gothamist reports. The driver whose dashboard camera recorded the entire incident also attempted to follow the thief but was unsuccessful.

Writer Brian Cohen posted the video on YouTube. He told PIX11 News Friday "the person who recorded the footage wishes to remain anonymous."

Police say no one was hurt and no arrests have been made. The investigation is ongoing.
