HARLEM, Manhattan — A Bronx man has been arrested in the shooting that killed 18-year-old across from Rucker Park, just as a high-profile basketball tournament there was about to begin, according to the NYPD.

Demetrius Washington, 19, is being charged with murder, two counts of assault, criminal possession of a weapon and reckless endangerment in the death of Jordan Barber, cops said late Wednesday.

On June 29, police responded to multiple shootings at the Polo Ground Houses, located at 2921 Frederick Douglass Boulevard. They said Barber was found unconscious and unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the neck. He was later pronounced dead.

A second victim, a 19-year-old man, experienced a gunshot wound to the thigh, but he survived. Another victim, a 17-year-old boy, was also hurt in the shooting, experiencing a gunshot wound to the abdomen, police said. They haven’t charged Washington in the third incident, but continue to investigate.

The shootings occurred as Rucker Park, steps away from the Polo Grounds, kicked off its annual Entertainer Basketball Classic, a tournament that occasionally attracts NBA talent throughout the summer.
