Select Buses offer a more direct service along certain MTA routes. They require payment at a sidewalk MetroCard machine.

The front of the Select Buses previously featured two flashing blue lights. But a state law reserves flashing blue lights for volunteer first-responder vehicles.

Some state officials pointed out the issue with the lights and they were removed. Some riders complained that they did not know which bus was about to arrive at the stop.

The MTA this month added a flashing blue display on the front of the bus.
