LAKELAND, Florida — A former Florida high school teacher was sentenced to 22 years in prison Thursday for having sex numerous times with three students.

Jennifer Fichter, 30, pled guilty to 37 counts of child sex charges. The first accusation of ‘inappropriate conduct’ reportedly came in 2008, when she was accused of having sex with an eighth grader. She resigned, but was subsequently hired by a different school district, and the conduct began again shortly thereafter. According to WTSP, she admitted to having sex with just one of the students around 20-30 times, with one of them leading to her getting an abortion.

‘All I can say is I’m so sorry,’ the former English teacher told family members and the court. ‘I wish I could go back and remove what I have done,’  ‘I hate what I have done. I wish I could go back and think about them (the victims) before me.’

‘It hurts,’ one mother told the court. ‘I saw myself losing my son before my very eyes and there was nothing I could do to reach him.’

Prosecutors say Fichter lied to the victims’ parents and had the students lie on her behalf, knowing she would be in trouble if she was ever caught.

‘If a man came in here today, your honor, and told you that he continually had sex with his teenage female students over a period of years, because it made him feel good about himself, he would be buried under the jail,’ said the prosecutor.

The judge called her a ‘predator’ and sentenced her to 22 years, three years less than a plea deal she had rejected in April.
