66-year-old man fights off 3 muggers in Coney Island elevator ambush

CONEY ISLAND, Brooklyn —Cops are hunting for a trio of would-be robbers who pounced on a 66-year-old man in Coney Island, but the victim was able to fight them off.

The three men followed their mark into a building at Surf Avenue and West 33 Street about 7 p.m.  June 15.  The three men were captured on video entering an elevator in which the attack took place.

One of the attackers punched the victim in the head while another tried to steal his cellphone from his waistband, according to police.  The third man attempted to remove the contents of the victim's pockets.  The victim was able to fight off the suspects who then fled empty handed.  The victim was not hospitalized, police said.

The attackers are described as black men, with one man wearing a dark denim jacket, white shorts, and white sneakers; another was sporting short dreads; and third was wearing a black-hooded sweatshirt with a zipper, and dark pants.
