HACKETTSTOWN – A Mars Chocolate employee called police after finding a fury hitchhiker trapped in the engine compartment of his truck Thursday morning.

The orange tabby had somehow lodged itself in the fan blades of the employee’s Nissan truck before the car embarked on the 28-mile ride from East Stroudsburg, Penn., to Hackettstown, N.J.

Officers managed to free the adorable stowaway, which leapt unharmed from the engine compartment.

“After a brief foot chase, the cat was caught by police,” Hackettstown police said.

They turned the feline over to an Animal Control officer at the scene.

A spokesman for Mars Petcare — which is owned by the same company that makes Mars chocolate — said the company wants to make sure this kitten gets a forever home.

So they are sponsoring its adoption fees and providing a year’s supply of SHEBA Perfect Portions and IAMS cat food, and Temptations treats.
