Several people have been attacked off the beaches of North Carolina in recent weeks.

On June 14, two teenagers lost limbs in separate shark attacks at the same beach. First responders were tending to a teenage girl who lost her left arm and left leg to a shark. Less than 90 minutes later, the teenage boy was attacked only two miles away.

According to the International Shark Attack File, there were 72 documented shark attacks worldwide. Data shows the majority of attacks in the United States happen in Florida, California or the Carolinas.
