Statistics show alarming number of mentally ill New Yorkers left untreated

According to the Health Department, one out of every 20 adults has a serious mental illness.

That's almost a quarter of a million people.

And half of them are not seeking treatment. Many of them may not know that they are ill--even those with violent tendencies.
