BUSHWICK, Brooklyn -- A woman escaped a rape attempt in Brooklyn early Saturday morning and police are now in search of a suspect seen fleeing in surveillance footage.

A 36-year-old female victim was walking along Star Street in Bushwick just after midnight when the suspect came up behind her and grabbed her around the waist, police say.

The victim was thrown to the ground, where the suspect sexually assaulted her with his hand.

The woman struggled and screamed for help, alerting a nearby resident who called out from his window.

The frightened suspect then fled before he was able to rape the woman, who was transported to Woodhull Hospital, evaluated and released.

Now the NYPD has released surveillance footage of the fleeing suspect in hopes it will help bring him to justice.

Anyone with information in regards to this incident is asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS.
