Man, 19, charged with attempted murder after firing shots at police in the Bronx

WESTCHESTER SQUARE, The Bronx— A 19-year-old has been charged with attempted murder after police say he returned fire at them during a chase in the Bronx.

Four officers in plainclothes were canvassing the Westchester Square neighborhood around 12:04 a.m. Saturday when Jaleel Shakoor, 19, began running after he spotted them.

Shakoor allegedly turned around fired two rounds from a semi-automatic handgun as two officers approached him from behind.

The officers then returned fire and did not his Shakoor, who was caught minutes later on Lyon Avenue and Zerega Avenue, police said.

The gun was recovered on the scene with one round lodged in the chamber.

Shakoor was arrested and charged with attempted murder and criminal possession of a weapon along with a slew of other charges.
