BLOOMINGTON, Calif. — A woman has been arrested after police say she killed her 8-month-old baby and hid the child’s remains in a storage shed for more than a year.

Maria Esthela Torres, 31, was taken into custody Saturday, according to San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, two days after the baby’s body was discovered.

Authorities say the Bloomington resident allegedly hid the body of her baby in the storage shed at a business in the 10100 block of Linden Avenue in Bloomington more than a year ago. She never revealed its location to her family, deputies say.

The cause of the baby’s death has not been released.

According to KNBC, Torres is also being investigated for allegedly accepting donations from members of a local church and the community for burial fees for the death of the child that were not apparently used for that purpose.

Torres is being held without bail at the West Valley Detention Center.
