UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, The Bronx - A disturbed man threatening officers with a pair of scissors died in police custody Monday, officials confirmed.

Emergency operators got a call reporting a person menacing other people inside 2263 Loring Place, and found a 51-year-old man armed with scissors.  When the suspect refused to drop the scissors, one of the responding officers used a Taser on the man in order to bring him into custody, according to police.

EMS was called, and the man was rushed to New York Presbyterian Hospital where he was pronounced dead.  He has not been identified pending family notification.

The Medical Examiner will issue a formal cause of death report once the office's investigation is complete.
