GRAMERCY, Manhattan — Police are searching for a man they say attempted to rape a woman in the lobby of a Gramercy apartment building early Saturday morning.

According to police, around 3 a.m., the suspect followed a 25-year-old woman into her apartment building. He then grabbed her and attempted to rape her. The woman was able to fight him off. He then fled the scene.

The suspect is described as being approximately 5-foot-8 and weighing 170 pounds. He was wearing blue jeans, white sneakers and a dark jacket with the word ADIDAS written on the hood.

Anyone with information is asked to call the NYPD Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-577-TIPS. The public can also submit their tips by logging onto the Crime Stoppers Website or texting their tips to 274637 (CRIMES) then enter TIP577.
