MIDDLETOWN TOWNSHIP, New Jersey (PIX11) – After a standoff that lasted through the night, police shot and killed a Middletown Township man who took his son hostage following a domestic dispute, according to police.
A 911 operator received a call around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday night reporting a domestic disturbance at a Bayside Parkway rental home. The boy’s mother had already fled the house, and she told officers that Scott McAllister, his father, was intoxicated, armed with a knife and had already beaten her. She told officers that he was also threatening to hurt their 17-month-old son.
When officers arrived, McAllister, 39, barricaded himself inside the home, and the Monmouth County Emergency Response Team was dispatched to the address.
A hostage negotiator worked through the night to convince McAllister to surrender peacefully, according to the attorney general, but he refused. Then, at 4:30 a.m. Wednesday, the SWAT team decided to force their way into the home.
Inside, they found McAllister, who officials say “is believed to have been armed with a knife,” and a SWAT member fired at McAllister, killing him. McAllister’s son, who was near him, was not harmed.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
