THE BRONX (PIX11) -- A week to the day after a man tried to rape a woman in the stairway of her Bronx apartment building an arrest has been in the case, police said Tuesday.

Rudell Caldwell, 30, of the Bronx, faces attempted rape and unlawful imprisonment charges, NYPD said. He’s suspected of attacking a woman about 9:30 a.m. May 12 after following her inside a building near Wales Avenue and East 151 Street.

Once in the building, he allegedly trailed the 26-year-old into the stairway where he grabbed her neck and demanded that she take off her pants. The woman did not comply and the attacker ran away, police said.

Photos and video of the assailant -- who was wearing a grey baseball cap, white sneakers and a black shirt at the time of the attack -- were circulated by police and published in the media, including on the PIX11 News and, in attempt to capture the culprit.
