Final victim in Amtrak derailment identified as Laura Finamore of NYC

NEW YORK (PIX11) -- Laura Finamore’s family confirmed the Manhattan real estate executive was among the victims of Tuesday’s Amtrak train crash.

In a statement Finamore’s family said, “Laura was an incredibly loving and giving person, touching many people each and every day through her generous spirit, thoughtfulness and compassion for others. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.”

Thursday night another wreck victim was remembered, Derrick Griffith. Griffith was the Dean of Student Affairs at Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn. “Dean Griffith was a phenomenal man,” said former student Evangeline Baez.

“It’s is a tremendous loss to this campus,” explained Medgar Evers student government president, Dexter Roberts. “There are a lot of students who can’t pay their rent, they don’t have food, no place to sleep, and Dean [Griffith] is the person they would go to. He would advocate on their behalf.”

The other victims identified in Tuesday’s tragedy include Italian tourist Giuseppe Piras, chemical company executive Bob Gildersleeve, Naval Academy Midshipman Justin Zemser, Associated Press Journalist Jim Gaines, Wells Fargo employee Abid Gilani, and CEO Rachel  Jacobs.
