SUNSET PARK, Brooklyn (PIX11) – A driver trying to avoid another car struck and killed a woman who was walking across a Sunset Park intersection early Sunday — the second pedestrian death in 24 hours.

The unidentified woman, in her 70s, was trying to cross busy 4th Avenue at 25th Street when a man in a Nissan sedan fatally struck her.  She was rushed to Lutheran Medical Center where she was pronounced dead.

Police say the driver of the Nissan, a 27-year-old man, said he had been cut off by another vehicle and was changing lanes to avoid a collision when he hit her.  He drove to the 72 Precinct station house immediately to report the incident.

A 76-year-old tourist visiting from Miami died Saturday afternoon after she was truck by a yellow cab driving on Madison Ave. at E. 60th Street.

Both incidents are under police investigation.
